Monday – end of day update

Posted Monday, 1p Pacific time/ 11p Kiev time. [2013/05/20]

I’m sure I’ll be back to follow this post up, but I thought I’d get up a few things, very quickly.

We are now just shy of one week since Dad disappeared. That’s a distressing mark of time…

I just spent nearly an hour talking to Jeff and then Randy. There’s really nothing new to report today. They have continued searching more places that are possibilities for where Jay might have gone. They have done a number of news interviews; TV and papers. They continue to put up flyers/posters. Jeff says they are ubiquitous – just *everywhere*.

But let me take a break from the recitation of facts and details to make a request from each of you.

Randy has said that the churches in Kiev have all made a request that their members fast and pray for 24 hours. They started about three hours ago – at 8p Kiev time.

Randy would like me to ask you, those who can and who find it in their hearts, to join us.

We certainly don’t want to ask you to do this, if this isn’t something you believe in. This is between you and God. But we would be honored to have you join us.

Thanks to all for your help.
Thanks for all your friendship.
Thanks for all your care.

-Greg [and all the rest of the family.]

I was impressed to fast today and will be joining you. This morning I opened my Bible to ask for any message of comfort God might want to send. Please read Psalm 71. It is such a fit that I feel the Lord led me there!

I felt impressed to fast and pray for this over the Sabbath. It was a blessing for me personally, and I am continuing to pray for Dr. Sloop, your family, and the search efforts. I so enjoyed meeting Dr. Sloop at the Vegetarian Congress in February. I was touched by his kind spirit and inspired by his creative mission ideas. What a dear man. Praying that God’s loving presence will comfort you during this time of distress and uncertainty.

I will join you with fasting and prayer, strongly believe that it moves God’s hand. Your family is in our hearts and prayers.

Randy and family: We are sorry to hear about the recent happenings with your father. I understand how you folks must feel right now. We will be praying and fasting too.

    Sincerely,

    Cindy Vipond Rockney and family

I have been keeping up with the blog postings since the Loma Linda University Church received the prayer request. I don’t know him, or any of you, but have been praying anyway. We’re all family of God. I will do the fasting with you. My earnest prayer is that you will all have peace, and trust God no matter what happens. He knows — all of it, and he is bigger than whatever evil has befallen this Godly man you love so much.

We were Unionites and remember Jay from our days there. Then we met again for a brief encounter in
Lubbock Texas. We are praying for Jay, his wife, family, and all involved in the search.

Greg…Sorry to read about this. Anything I might say would sound a little hollow, though it is enough, I suppose to simply state that your Dad and the rest of your family are in my prayers.

I felt the Lord telling me to do this yesterday, so yes, I will join in, fasting and praying now.

  9. Jeanne Hardinge Ekvall

Merlin and I are fasting and praying this evening especially for Jay and your whole family. May God wrap His arms of love and care about each of you.

I’ve never fasted before, but this is so important that I absolutely will!

  11. Ken and Lana Rose

Our prayers and thoughts are with you many times each day! Praying that The Lord will hold his hand over Jay and each of you.

I was at Union College when Jay and Sharlene attended. Even though have not crossed paths with them since, have heard of their ministry in Yakima and hold them in high regard. My prayers and thoughts go out to the whole family.

We do believe in fasting! Let’s consecrate a fast onto the Lord and pray without ceasing. Both my husband and I will join in, in agreement with other church family as we left up Doc, his whole family, and every single person involved in the search. Blessings to Doc and family,
    Art and Lydia Moreno

    Greg,

You and your family are still in our prayers! I found this Evening/Night prayer earlier and thought of all of you.
    Heidi

    Be present, O merciful God,
and protect us through the silent hours of this night,
so that we who are wearied
by the changes and chances of this fleeting world,
    may rest upon your eternal changelessness;
    through Jesus Christ our Lord.

My husband and I are praying everyday for Dr. Sloop’s safe return. My husband Ed Teranski has made 11 trips to Ukraine and knows the country and people well. He has called to inquire and it seems everyone is doing their best to find Dr. Sloop. I have just checked again and there is no news update so I will assume there is none. God knows where he is and we pray that you may somehow rest in that assurance. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Juanita Neal Teranski

I too will fast and pray for Dr. Jay and family. I want to dedicate Psalms 71 to Dr. Jay.Especially verse 4 ”
71:4 Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man. ”
71:12 O God, be not far from me: O my God, make haste for my help.
71:14 But I will hope continually, and will yet praise thee more and more.
71:17 O God, thou hast taught me from my youth: and hitherto have I declared thy wondrous works.
71:18 Now also when I am old and greyheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have showed thy strength unto [this] generation, [and] thy power to every one [that] is to come.
71:24 My tongue also shall talk of thy righteousness all the day long: for they are confounded, for they are brought unto shame, that seek my hurt.

I have posted again on Facebook for any of my followers to share about the search for Jay. This time I shared the flyer showing the info from Ukraine in the hopes that someone might recognize him over there and find him! My heart goes out to you and your family during this time and my prayers are with you. I hope that Jay is found safe and sound.

I will join you in fasting and prayer today. Something good has got to come out of all this. I’m claiming the promise in Jeremiah 31:13 “I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.”

  19. Quint Nicola

Norene and I will pray and fast for God’s special intervention, whatever form it takes.
God is faithful, and as it says in Hebrews 11, “By faith…” many were rescued, and by faith many others were martyred, but all of them will receive the promised restoration and join in the great family reunion with God.

  20. Ella Jones

I joined your fast and prayers. I strongly believe in fasting! Our prayer group in Wenatchee will have a special session dedicated to your father. God is big and mighty! Ella Jones.

I’ve been coming here regularly–thinking and praying for everyone involved often. Courage!
